Last Sunday was the first day of my Weight Watcher membership. I started the day with a cup of black coffee rather than my usual coffee with half-and-half and two sugars. I figured I might as well go cold turkey rather than gradually wean myself with one teaspoon of sugar and milk before moving onto black. I thought, why not just jump right into it. That actually went okay initially. But midweek I went back to my coffee with half and half and sugar. I decided I’d find another place to make an adjustment for the milk and sugar later in the day since that cup means a lot to me. My biggest problem over the week has been trying to figure out how to use the Weight Watcher point system. By the way, that is not me in the photo above. She is my inspiration to build muscle in addition to weight loss.
I’ve looked both on Weight Watchers website and I’ve Googled this answer. By 6 o’clock on my first night a week ago, I still had not figured it out. I made myself feel better because I managed to go the entire day without snacks even though I did not get any exercise in that day. But notwithstanding my rather slow take-off, I’m committed to working through the next 90 days with the hopes that I will learn how to lose and keep the weight off
Seven days later, I am one pound lighter. But I think I may have a sugar jones. That is what I notice that I am missing. I miss having a “sweet snack.” Would you believe that snacks meant so much to a sister? I don’t quite have my head wrapped around the online version of Weight Watchers, which is what I purchased. Like who can I turn to when I feel weak and want a hard candy?
This is what Body Ecology says the top tips to end sugar cravings are:
- Avoid processed foods. Eating sugar and processed foods creates a vicious cycle spurred on by addiction.
- Boost your serotonin. Naturally raise levels of the “happiness hormone” through exercise, sleep, and a healthy diet; higher serotonin levels lead to fewer cravings for sweets.
- Satisfy your sweet tooth naturally. All-natural, zero-calorie Stevia is 300 times sweeter than sugar.
- Drink plenty of water. Your body may be craving sugar because it is dehydrated.
- Keep your blood sugar stable. Eating small, healthy, Body Ecology-friendly meals throughout the day can stabilize blood sugar levels and reduce cravings.
- Have plenty of greens. Nutrient-rich green drinks can increase energy levels and reduce sugar and processed food cravings.
- Eat more sea vegetables. Sea vegetables are naturally high in minerals, while sugary foods deplete minerals in your body.
- Enjoy fermented foods and drinks. Probiotic-rich fermented foods and drinks can most effectively eliminate sugar cravings, sometimes in as little as 4-5 days. Try homemade young coconut kefir and cultured vegetables, as well as ready-made probiotic drinks like CocoBiotic and InnergyBiotic.
- Meditate. Daily meditation can reduce stress and minimize sugar cravings.
- Try EFT. Emotional Freedom Techniques use simple emotional acupressure points to address deep-rooted issues, like sugar addiction.
Are there any weight watcher veterans out there that can help me count properly or give me a suggestion for this sugar craving? Will this go away in time?
