PBS Race 2012: A weekly commentary on Race & the Presidential Election
The young lady was near Macy’s at the corner of 34th Street and Sixth Avenue encouraging passer-bys to register to vote. Oh joy!!! I was so excited to see her beautiful face. She agreed that I could take this picture. Her organization is HeadCount.org or the who that she is working for is called “Headcount.”
According to the organization’s website their purpose is “to stage voter registration drives at concerts and run programs that translate the power of music into real action. By reaching young people and music fans where they already are — at concerts and online — we make civic participation easy and fun.” That shows someone is thinking organizational strategy, right.
Take a look at this turbovote site. Their claim is that they “make the voting process as awesome as renting a DVD from Netflix.” They will track the rules and deadlines for where you live AND send you the forms that you need.
Here’s another Can I vote nonpartisan website that promises to tell you if you can vote and where to go vote state by state.
Regardless of who you choose to vote for, you must vote. Sorry to be preachy but the first debate is just over a week away. Ohio is still up for grabs and we just don’t know what the outcome will be. Get your ducks in order and take nothing for granted. And meanwhile, let’s try not to be distracted by the non-deserving newsmaking headlines that fill the airwaves and social media.
Without mentioning race in this post, I offer the face of this campaign worker, as a member of the new mainstream and a view to what America will look like. America please get used to this.

Thanks Patricia,
I was scurrying making sure my mom had an absentee ballot
so that she could vote. “Something” prompted me to go to Boomerwiz. Sure enough you provided the exact website information I needed to get it handled. You are not only brilliant. You are RELEVANT!
Kind Regards,
Shonda

Fabulous. Happy you stopped by the boomerwizdom community and that I was able to help. The clock was ticking and this week I got my absentee ballot in the mail. Thank you for stopping by and please come back and share.

I like how you call this campaign worker “a member of the new mainstream.” So true. It makes me proud and gives me chills to think how far we’ve come and how the face of this country is changing–for the better!
