Locally Owned Budget Hotels for the Super Budget Conscious
Those who have come to this part of Jamaica since the 1960’s know where the locally owned budget hotels are because this is where many stay. Now you will know too. Consider one of the small three-star properties offering the kind of intimacy that is not possible in larger establishments. Being near the beach is sometimes quite enough allowing for a moderately priced option. Then there is always the choice of an all-inclusive. Consider these suggestions as a starting point only.
The Villa La Cage Negril has three stars, 27 rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, a restaurant and bar lounge. Expect complimentary WiFi, free parking and good service at this 3-star property. Prices average $51 per night.
The Samsara Resort is another three-star property that sits cliff side west of downtown Negril. There is a quietude in this area and a spa on premises. For a fee, it is possible to get your PADI Certifications at the hotel’s Marine Life Divers Scuba Center. Rates average $79 per night.
You will find this four-star Sunrise Club Hotel with eight deluxe rooms ideal for those love small properties. An on-site concierge will make sure your holiday retreat is comfortable, at an average $67 per night in an air-conditioned room with a bar and lounge.
Mid-range Resorts offer a Great Value
Sometimes the mid-range resort properties offering reasonable rates and great value are a better mix, especially if you are traveling alone or with a small party. For just an average $90 per night, rooms are available in this oceanfront property. Rondel Village affords easy in room relaxation with a flat screen TV and cable on the ocean. Rooms include a refrigerator. Travellers Beach Resort has an average room rate of $62 per night, but there is no refrigerator in the room. There is a pool, restaurant, spa and fitness center as well as scuba dive instructions on premises. At the Negril Tree House Resort there are 70 air-conditioned rooms, a delicious breakfast, great grounds and a pool. Rates are reasonable in the off-season.
Worry Less About Spending at an All-Inclusive
If you prefer to leave meal planning to someone else, then an all-inclusive might be what you are seeking. While staying at the oceanfront Idle Awhile Resort it’s expected that you will indeed idle awhile. In this tranquil setting you are just a short taxi ride to the Negril Lighthouse and the coral cliffs. Rates begin at $150 per night. The Grand Pineapple Beach Negril at the tip of Seven Mile Beach offers seclusion close to Negril Hills Golf Club. Choose either a beachfront or garden room but know in advance, beachfront units are a little noisy. Rates average $197 per night. The Sandy Haven Resort, like the Grand Pineapple Beach Negril, is close to the Negril Hills Golf Club. Although it is a boutique hotel with four stars, the hotel does not have an elevator. Prices average $322 per night.
Along this seven mile beach stretch, there is much to choose from. There are many activities that some hotels offer and you could even book a tour. Of course if you are trying to figure out the best way to get to Negril upon landing and what to expect once there, read my up-to-date primer on Negril.
