Macy’s Culinary Council 10th Anniversary featuring celebrity master chefs was an event not to be missed. This post is part II of a Everywhere Sponsored opportunity involving the Home Department of Macy’s Herald Square. The opinions contained herein are my own.
It was not until very recently that I became aware of the Culinary Council. Macy’s Culinary Council is made up of expert chefs from around the country, who are dedicated to inspiring each of us to eat, cook and enjoy food at home – just like a chef. If you read me regularly, you know I consider myself an amateur chef. But as I said, going to Macy’s Culinary Council 10th Anniversary was my introduction to Culinary Council events. And given the opportunity to smooze with celebrity master chefs that I have admired from afar, the chance to sample a selection of their genius food creations, drink Prosecco, listen to a DJ spinning Blurred Lines, and have photo opportunities, well this was too great an evening to pass up.
It was what I would call a PARTY. Macy’s hosted the Culinary Council 10th Anniversary October 15th in their new restaurant, Stella 34 Trattoria on the store’s 6th floor. Anyone who had made a purchase in Macy’s Home Department totaling at least $100 was granted free entrance plus the attendees received a $20 gift card. Celebrity Master Chefs made nice with the guests, stopping for photo ops and they shared a kind of camaraderie that is sometimes missing at events such as these.
The crowd was young, urbane, and well-dressed with that je ne sais quoi air of having been there, eaten this and done that. As I fiddled with my camera, I sat near two old(er) women, (meaning older than me) who clearly were New York mavens of events such as these. When the waiters passed through the crowd, the two women stopped them so as to be certain they sampled each of the evening’s offerings.
We enjoyed Todd English’s red velvet Scallops with red soba, ikura, and spiced red miso broth.
Chef Takashi Yagihashi served Prosciutto-shrimp Spring Rolls. I would never dream of combining these two tastes and perhaps that is the point. One comes to events like this to sample out-of-the ordinary choices like this. It was a divine combination.
