I love my dog. She adds to my quality of life and helps to keep me happy and healthy. But she weighs a little more than 85 pounds and after 11 inches of snow or a rainstorm, she makes a huge mess in the house. She is in and out of the house numerous times per day but not before relieving her boredom and playing in wet leaves or burying her nose in the snow. Here is where the problems begins. My dog needs pet friendly carpet. She cannot easily be wiped down upon her return. She destroy carpets with mud and whatever debris she brings back into the house. My hardwood floors are a disaster but it is really the rugs and carpeting that pose the biggest problem. They cannot withstand this kind of traffic without becoming an aesthetic eyesore. Now Mohawk’s pet friendly carpet with its SmartStrand technology addresses this problem.
The product labeling reads, “Mohawk SmartStrand Carpet is the only carpet with built in stain and soil protection that never washes off.” This treatment technology suggests that I, Ms. Pet Owner, will not have to replace carpets ad infinitum. The unique treatment requires only water to remove stains. Mild detergent and warm water are to be used on difficult or persistent stains that may contain grease. Best of all, this carpeting lasts 10+ years. I have decided to test this claim.
Now this is a bit frightening. I poured some low sodium soy sauce that is darker than some red wines onto a sample piece of Mohawk’s Pet friendly carpet. I am a little worried about removing this stain. Yet the claims bear out as you can see in my after photo below. I used a damp sponge to absorb the color initially. Then I added two drops of detergent and warm water. Voila!
Not only is the Mohawk’s pet-friendly carpet made with its SmartStrand technology easy to clean with its built in stain and soil protection, there are wide variety of carpet designs to choose from. My dog needs pet friendly carpet but I do not want it to be ugly.
I have come to meet “Mo,” Mohawk’s celebrity mascot for the Puppy Bowl X that occurs annually on the Animal Planet just before the Big Game. “Mo” is a yellow lab who has come to New York to help promote the Puppy Bowl as a celebrity correspondent. I quickly get in line to shake “Mo’s” paw and take a photo. He is a gentle animal with so much personality and he was very professional. He made me want to #ShareMoLove.
I don’t know who in particular thought of the brilliant idea to host a Puppy Bowl each year before the Big Game. But someone at the Animal Planet created this event ten years ago wherein puppies from shelters around the country play their own big game before the Big Game. The day was conceived as an opportunity to get these puppies adopted and to bring visibility to the important need to find homes for them. Amazingly, by the end of each Puppy Bowl, all or most of the puppies are adopted. I heard these puppies were actually trained by the first pets, Bo and Sunny, at the White House.
I headed downstairs at the Discovery Channel to see the Puppy Bowl area and realized how soft the carpeting I was walking on was. As the official sponsor of Puppy Bowl X, Mohawk with the Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl X, installed more than 15,000 square feet of carpeting. It feels as though an equal amount of carpet pads have been outfitted beneath the carpets. It is so soft. But that is not true. You really have to try it. To win a prize pack and more, use #ShareMoLove throughout 2014 during Mohawk’s national campaign.
Mohawk’s pet friendly carpet with its SmartStrand technology meets my pain points of pet ownership by being pet friendly, cleaning easily, having a variety of design choices, and a life span of more than 10 years. You cannot beat that combination.

Janet I know you know what I am talking about. Her in and out of the house drives me crazy … but I love my girl Jinji. Now to “Mo”. She was delightful!!! Mo is so well trained and the puppy bowl simply brilliant. Loved checking this out and being able to appreciate the creativity.
