In the country’s Heartland, budget conscious travelers will have no problem finding a moderately priced Midwest hotel offering excellent amenities. Duluth, Minnesota, Grand Forks, North Dakota and Troy, Michigan are but three of many villages and towns within close proximity of large Midwest cities where you are sure to find great deals.
Northbrook, Illinois
The hotels in Northbrook, Illinois are just 20 minutes from downtown Chicago on the city’s North Shore, although you may have never heard of this village. The truth is, it’s almost a suburb of Chicago with both luxury and budget hotel choices. So while indeed the Renaissance Chicago North Shore Hotel and the Sheraton Chicago Northbrook are very luxurious options, there are equally desirable hotel choices under $100 per night. The Red Roof Inn Chicago in Northbrook/Deerfield is a budget-conscious traveler’s dream. The highlight of this hotel is that it is pet-friendly, handicap accessible, and has a working business center. Prices can sometimes be as low as $51 per night.
Troy, Michigan
Business travelers often seek hotels in Troy, Michigan, rather than in downtown Detroit. This, of course, increases demand and raises prices for hotel rooms during the week. However, budget conscious visitors need not despair. Options like the Knights Inn Sterling Heights, the Econo Lodge Madison Heights, and the Red Roof Inn Detroit-Troy have comparable rates and amenities to its sister property in Northbrook, Illinois and average $50 per night. Your four-legged friends are also welcome.
Duluth, Minnesota
While the city of Duluth is more than two hours from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul, it is a great city from which to enjoy the state. The hotels in Duluth, Mn, such as the Radisson Hotel Duluth-Harborview can sometimes come in as low as $87 per night even though that is not its regular price. It is magnificently located near the downtown waterfront. Expect handicap accessibility, wi-fi and pets allowed. But the added feature of on site spa and sauna, pool, bar and lounge and fitness center.
Grand Forks, North Dakota
The city of Grand Forks, founded in 1870, is the third largest city in North Dakota after Fargo and Bismarck, the state capital. The East Grand Inn is a basic hotel, similar to the nearby Fairfield Inns but it is considerably less expensive. Reviewers have described the hotel’s rooms as spacey and clean and the hotel’s staff as friendly. Continental breakfast is free, pets are allowed, and the hotel is handicap accessible.
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Sioux Falls was a prairie settlement in the 1800s that today is a city of more than 150,000. Travelers seeking hotels in Sioux Falls, SD can choose from more than 4,900 hotels and motels. The Days Inn Sioux Falls joins this group welcoming pets, with free Wi-Fi and complimentary breakfast. Parking, which can easily raise one’s daily expenses, is also free at the Days Inn Sioux Falls. At the Super 8 Sioux Falls 41st St Sd, a similar hotel, prices are excellent, rooms are reportedly very clean, the location is close to the interstate, and the staffing gets high marks.
This group of budget conscious choices that welcome pets confirm that Midwest hotels in America’s Heartland deserve high marks.
