What I put in my mouth is generally the best indicator of how in tune I am with my purpose. In fact, if I don’t want to cook for myself I am either going through extreme personal changes or sick. In no way am I a purist about food. But I do believe that real food is brain food. And when I am living “on purpose” my eating habits are generally in line.
Let me share a recipe from a favorite cookbook that a good, good friend gave me. It is “I am Grateful,” by Terces Engelhart. This little cookbook is filled with organic, living food recipes. I use these recipes as a point of meditation when preparing my meals and as a source of delicious nutrition. The cookbook reminds me of the absolute place in life for gratitude, the need to trust one’s inner knowing what your body needs; but more importantly, it reminds me of the need to act on that knowing when addressing change. Take this simple recipe on page 46:
Citrus Garlic Dressing
1 cup olive oil
1/2 cup lemon oil
1/4 cup orange juice
2 teaspoons chopped garlic
1 teaspoon salt
Zest of 1/2 orange
The instructions say “taste the dressing for its flavor.” As in life, the recipe is straight-forward yet so complex. So on a day like today as I think about how I am growing, I face my fears and welcome change.
Do you live to eat or eat to live? And do you consider food medicine?

I am always so happy when I see you have commented. Seriously I smile every time because for me and Boomerwizdom, you are an affirmation.
I meant lemon juice. I wish I lived in a climate where I could grow lemons. Next one is carrot ginger dressing. I am going to get that one down. It is so delicate and satisfying.
Now as to portion control, I am using the Lose It app on iphone. I have serious problems with portion control. Thus the app to see if I can feel satisfied with fewer calories.
Let me know how it turns out

BTW, do you really mean lemon oil, or is it lemon juice? I’ll be using lemon juice – I always keep a stash of fresh lemons.

Patricia, this is such welcome post – I love your thoughts about something that’s important in my life. I’ve pretty much trained my palate to crave healthy food, and as soon as I have the portion thing down I’ll be in great shape LOL (too much of a good thing….). I’m going try the citrus garlic dressing — right now!!!– it’s lunch time.
