I am soooo sore from having taken one TRX class this week, that getting up from the sofa has been difficult since Thursday. About a month ago I purchased 20 classes from a Groupon offer of TRX classes. This training is reportedly “born in the Navy SEALs, Suspension Training bodyweight exercise (and is supposed to) develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously.”
I have hit the point in my life where no matter how much I eat or how much exercise I do, the scale does not move. You have heard me say this before. So since a contract with Weight-Watchers does not seem to be in the stars, I am doing something about it.
Something bigger is happening for me, this booming midlifer as it relates to me getting a flat stomach. I have begun to face more frequent issues associated with my back, some of which are due to a weak core and vanishing muscle tone, according to my homeopathic chiropractor. So this is another reason I am getting off my backside.
I am telling you to enlist YOU as my accountability partner. I need someone to hold me to this. Take a look below. The first picture is the one where people say, “You are not fat.” While this is a nice statement, it is not totally true if you compare me to me and not to someone else. My inner response is that someone should tell that to the people who do those obesity charts. I acknowledge there is some controversy about these charts so I won’t scare you by including the actual chart in this post. But if you are interested, be brave and take a look. I am less concerned about the charts, if I am honest, than I am about how my excess weight is affecting my internal organs. So together with my concern regarding my family history and high blood pressure, I am moving forward.
This is what I am actually working with, sagging stomach muscles that make me look and feel all round: core muscles that have no tone and give me vanity angst and health concerns. Because a weak core:
1. Does not feel good with a belt
2. Does not look good from the side
3. Serves no good purpose
4. Disease comes with this thickened fat
5. It’s got to go.
So I am on a mission to follow my own prescription for “Aging Young” and do what is necessary to make a few life changes. This little journey to tone my core muscles begins today.
Have you been able to keep those stomach muscles and your overall core strong? If so, what do you do? If not, why not? What are your thoughts?

Oh wow, I just was at the doctor today talking about this exact thing. I have a real aversion to exercise which is a big problem for me. I am impressed that you are taking those classes!
As far as the stomach thing goes, I’ve just sort of accepted that mine will never, ever be flat – it never has been.
Thanks for the bit of inspiration!

Oh wow is right. You are an energizer bunny. I impressed myself that I actually went and stopped talking about my desire to do something to help myself ….I am committed to ‘try’ to take these classes. It has been one week and I am going back in tomorrow now that my muscles have lengthened a bit. I am at least 1/4 inch taller. Thanks for stopping by. I enjoy your regular posts
