Cure together is a website where people who are suffering from the same thing talk to each other, discuss what they are experiencing, share information, and receive comfort and advice. People anonymously participate in surveys on topics like depression, high blood pressure or high cholesterol and CureTogether. I noticed the results of a recent survey on depression because of my involvement with one of my favorite Facebook groups, the Pushing Lovelies, on its the #DayofLight project.
I learned that not all depressions are the same. It is a kind of crowd sourcing without interference of the medical profession or Big Pharma. Once at the CureTogether website you self-describe your symptoms via a survey to get a depression score. For each symptom you are asked to check Yes or No to indicate whether you have experienced it (and then to rate its severity if you check Yes).
From the results of 11,492 participants on this topic at the time I noticed it, you can read about the treatments other people have used, what kind of side effects they encountered and possible causes of any kind from their perspectives.
When you are trying to figure something out it is really cool to have someone to talk to in the process. I am not suggesting that this is the only avenue you pursue if you feel something is off. But crowdsourcing information can be useful for identifying resources, solace, direction and the list goes on. This company happens ato have been purchased by 23andme, the health and genetics firm I wrote about here.
Take a look at the results here to see what CureTogether says about depression.
