I joined the hard-core Mary J Blige fan club in with the release of her sophomore album, 411, in 1992 and I have followed her career since them. She always delivers that special blend of fragility and strength in mega-doses. Even today as a blooming boomer, I can get in my feelings, turn on Mary J and sing right through them to an improved healthy day. Get ready for The London Sessions, her latest release.
Wikipedia reports “As of 2013, Blige has sold more than 50 million albums and 15 million singles worldwide. Billboard ranked Blige as the most successful female R&B artist of the past 25 years.”
I was thrilled to get an advance drop of The London Sessions, her most recent oeuvre. May I say, you will not be disappointed with this Mary from the other side of the pond who continues to share how she gets through her struggles as a grown woman.
This CD is a combination of lamentation, contemplation and victorious anthem as only Mary J can do. It starts out slowly and brings the listener into that Euro beat on Right Now, track 5. From there I moved on to Whole Damn Year, an anthem for all time to Worth My Time where Mary J serves a victorious message while questioning the relationship.
The London Sessions feel like Europe, as well it should, as sang by a grown woman looking over the landscape. We are used to experiencing many of the soulful Queen of Hip Hop’s feelings but not against a Euro soundtrack. It’s good.
Definitely to be enjoyed by grown folks. I am recommending it available December 2 a http://www.MaryJBlige.com.
I participated in the Mary J Blige The London Sessions album review program as a member of bLink Marketing Network. I was provided a free album to review but all opinions are my own.
