It’s lunch time and I am in the middle of a downsizing move that is making it hard to for me to prepare meals in my new kitchen. Right now I want something that tastes good and has a fresh baked taste — except I have no time to prepare it and I want it now. However since being introduced to Healthy Choice’s frozen options as a result of agreeing to review and write a sponsored post for a fee, I have a few new options.
Today I tried Healthy Choice’s Italian Sausage Pasta Bake. Although the name implies the frozen meal has been baked, it is in fact a microwaved offering with a freshly baked taste. Seems unlikely but indeed, minus the parmesan cheesy taste of traditional baked pasta, I found this frozen meal satisfied me.
For label readers, the first three ingredients are cooked whole grain pasta, tomato puree, and italian sausage which is good thing since that is exactly what we are supposed to be eating. If you are anything like me, you might be a little wary. I am someone who has to watch their sodium intake because of blood pressure issues and I know prepared meals sometimes have high sodium numbers. The American Heart Association recommends limiting your sodium intake to less than 2,000 milligrams per day. This particular offering has 560mg or 23% of an adult’s daily allowance. So some caution is required even though it is only 270 calories with a Weight Watchers Point Plus Value of 7.
I liked this meal because it tasted like a real meal and not a snack and no preservatives were used. For the average consumer, this provides a way to have a a balanced meal, one you could feed your family. And believe it or not, although I received coupons to buy this product, I found my local store was selling them 5 for $10.00 . Guess who filled their freezer with a coupon and my own money.
