I have been dreaming about a Fitbit since last March but I have not taken the plunge to buy one for myself. While I was in Austin at SXSW, I followed the health track where there was a great deal of talk about sensors and the future of medicine. Most of the people wearing the sensors were millennials who were focused on high performance. Well now one of my nieces , who is an on-the-go athletic type, is heading to the University of Santa Barbara on an athletic scholarship. The family is proud of her achievements. We are of course hoping her time at the university level will be as eventful as her lead-up to it. So I decided to go to Best Buy to look for a great gift idea under $100. I narrowed my choices and closed in on the FitBit since she is totally into health and fitness and a bit of a nerd. I know she will love this great grad gift idea.
The Fitbit comes in a variety of colors, is aesthetically sleek and lightweight; will withstand the rain, the shower, your sweatiest workout, and can even be worn while you sleep. She is also self-motivated and like some of us who have goals, she actually keeps track of her stats . The FitBit will help her meet her goals in a more efficient way as it will do this for her. Think of it as a coach on her arm. She can even earn Fitbit badges on a daily basis to keep her motivated. The data from this Fitbit will automatically connect to other health and fitness apps she may be using on her cell phone or computer. In this way, the overall Fitbit experience can electronically be streamlined. Best of all, the Fitbit has a rechargeable Lithium-iom battery that will connect to her computer’s USB drive. I am pretty hyped about the benefits of FitBit and how it can help her stay on track.
This gift is under $100 and will be easy to ship as a gift. I’ve selected the Fitbit Flex Wireless Activity and Sleep Tracker Wristband over the Jawbone UP Wristband or the Casio Women’s digital sport watch. It was either a gift from this category or I considered buying a small appliance like the Breville Juice Fountain, Ninja Blender or Cuisinart Classic Food Processor so that she could prepare high quality drinks and snacks.
I am however happy with the decision I made. The truth is I really wanted a Fitbit for me. It can track my steps, monitor how well and how long I actually sleep. Just as it will serve my nieces’ goals, it will serve my needs. Owning one will allow me to monitor my goals and visualize my progress. I think I will buy two: one for my niece and one for me. Not only will she love this great grad gift idea, I am loving it as well as simply a great gift idea.

Hi Patricia,
This is a helpful post! I recently bought a FitBit while on an exercise walk through the streets of my city. It was an impulse buy motivated by a need to up my fitness game a lot more. I figured that this tracker would motivate me to get up from my PC and move a lot more! I’m glad you purchased one for your niece. I bet she’ll love it.
