I have several nephews and nieces. In fact I have several great-nieces and great-nephews, one of whom will be heading to Middle School shortly. We adults want him to have a cellphone, maybe even more than he wants one, because we want to be able to reach him as he begins to move about solo. I want to acknowledge his accomplishments in school with a gift that is worthy of his graduation. But my gesture must be practical while bringing a smile to his face. My bottom line is I am looking among the lowest price unlimited plans for one that will not break my bank. Because of course, I would be defeating the whole exercise of identifying the best and lowest priced unlimited plan if I over spend my personal budget. Walmart #FamilyMobile however meets these criteria.
My great-nephew is 12 years old. I DO NOT want to spend mega-dollars for this gift phone. Adolescence is an age when things get lost a lot. So price is of the utmost importance. Furthermore, if I am responsible for the bill for the first 3 months, I want a plan that does not require me to monitor the number of text messages or data he uses playing games. These are very real concerns.
On my first visit to Walmart to investigate their wireless plans, I felt overwhelmed trying to compare the amount of gigabyte, and data charges of different carriers.
But then the Walmart #FamilyMobile plans take the sting out of this buying decision with the offer of unlimited talk, text & web plans. You don’t need to compare how much data you normally use because this is a moot point with unlimited talk and text. You do not need to know how many text messages you normally consume in a month because once again, they are unlimited.
This will be great for my great-nephew. Walmart #FamilyMobile offers a kind of freedom even I have not yet experienced. I only know protracted minimum 2 year contract relationships with carriers. It will be nice to break this cycle for my great-nephew. And in this case, advantages are coming in small packages with the following benefits. These are my top deal breakers:
Choice
I am someone who has come to the conclusion that I would prefer to own my cell phone outright rather than be in a long contractual relationship. I would like to pass this value on to my nephew. Walmart offers an unlimited plan with some choices. You can either select unlimited talk, text and web for $39.88 per month or unlimited talk and text for $29.88 per month. It is possible to tailor your monthly plan to your needs. Unlimited web includes up to 5GB of 3G data speed; and then it slows to up to 2G speed for the balance of the billing cycle.
The cool thing is you can activate your new phone either in the store. If you decide to do it at home you have only to provide the activation code and 19-digit SIM number and the 15 digit IMEI number on your phone either on line or by phone 24 hours a day.
No Overages
Money is be an issue and it is important that my nephew not be saddled with a plan that has limitations and the possibility of overages. No matter which unlimited program his mother chooses to stick with after the first three months, he will be in good shape.
No Credit check
This plan is a postpaid plan, and therefore there is no reason for a credit check. You pay $25 for a Starter kit for each line and it is a one time fee. You can pay your bill either online, by phone or at the Walmart MoneyCenter
Billed Monthly
Once you pay at the register, you can activate in the store or at home. You are billed monthly
Features
I selected the Alcatel one touch Evolve has all the advantages a cell phone user could want. It cost less than $75 without tax. I have done my due diligence and learned that this phone has superlative service.

You really thought of everything with this—price, the amount of data and texts etc. . .plus, the phone itself isn’t very expensive. I know children at that age do tend to lose things.
Patricia A Patton says
Yes Tazim,
I really do not want to spend too much money on the phone yet I want the phone to give us most of the services we have all become accustomed to with my old Iphone 4S. It will be good enough for him.
Danielle says
I really love the price for the service. It’s something that’s reasonable and a student with a little income can pay for their bill (or do chores to earn it) easily. #client
Patricia A Patton says
The price is amazing, isn’t it, given its capabilities. That is a huge plus.

This looks and sounds like it is perfect for my college student! I’m going to check it out!
Patricia A Patton says
Do Check it out. I think this might be just the solution for you Melisa. Do make time to check it out.

My niece currently has a phone from Walmart and used the Virgin Moble cards to pay for the low monthly fee. She is graduating from High School this year. Daniel and I would like to purchase a phone for her. We are debating adding a line to our phone plan and getting her the phone that way. However, maybe we need to take a trip to Walmart and see what phones are available that fit both our budget and stays within the low monthly price so she can afford it as well! Thanks for sharing Patricia!
Patricia A Patton says
And thank you for reading and sharing Arelis. Adding a second line still is much less than a monthly contractual amount. This option sure makes you think about value and service. You niece would be better able to manage this kind of cellphone business relationship.
MrsTDJ says
This seems like the perfect balance for a teenager who is pushing to have technology at their fingertips and adults who recognize the real prices of that technology. I’m going to share this with a few people who have young folks on the cusp of asking for cell phones. Great post!
Patricia A Patton says
Yes Taya, please do share this option. Most of us have been in 2 year or longer contact relationships. I think if you can find a carrier that offers the same level of service for a third of the price, why not try them. It’s even more perfect for those with limited resources. Thanks so much for stopping by.

I am loving Walmart Family Mobile. No contract, no credit check when getting lines for others so if they don’t pay the bill, oh, well. This is the best unlimited plan around.
Patricia A Patton says
So we are in agreement that Walmart Family Mobile IS the best unlimited plan around.
brandi says
This is a great way to introduce young people to cell phones. It’s low cost, but also low risk! Your nephew will love it!
Patricia A Patton says
Yes I agree Brandi. I am so happy to find a program without a contract.
