A Candid Product Review:
Often when I have a taste for something sweet and am in search of a healthy choice, I cannot find anything appropriate. My first inclination is to grab a piece of hard candy. But if you are counting calories as I have been lately, you quickly realize that three small pieces of seemingly harmless peppermint candy equal 100+ calories of absolutely nothing beneficial to your body. So I was pleased to receive a voucher from Vibrant Nation for free samples of Healthy Choice products to review because I’d love to make better choices.
This week I tried the Greek Frozen Yogurt. I should warn you that I am Ms. Picky when it comes to desserts. I will take plain pound cake any day of the week over cheesecake from the fanciest and best French restaurant. But Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurts are visually enticing, about the size of a dixie cup (some of you may remember the size of a dixie cup ice cream); they contain no artificial colors or flavors and have just 4 grams of protein.
The side of the box states that the company “blends protein and delicious real ingredients into their frozen yogurt to create just the right creamy tartness.” Indeed both flavors I tasted had a creamy taste … but were they good? For you know, it is not enough to say that something is good for you if it doesn’t also taste good. Between the Dark Fudge Swirl and the Blueberry Greek Frozen Yogurt that I sampled, I preferred Blueberry. There were real blueberries in the yogurt and it was just sweet enough to drive my sweet gremlin cravings away.
I am also a big fan of the company’s brand message of “Don’t diet. Live healthy.” Okay they are not saying this is a product that functions like medicine but these snacks are made with yogurt cultures. Live and active cultures, I understand, break down lactose in milk. So if you happen to be lactose intolerant or someone who experiences gastrointestinal discomfort when you consume milk products, you can eat Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt without the side effects of abdominal cramping, bloating and diarrhea.
I consider myself a good eater, a serious foodie and an amateur cook. While all of that is true, the reality is I also love potato chips when I eat tuna sandwiches. So whenever I can identify something that tastes good, I embrace it. Read more about Healthy Choice products here.
