I have decided to plant as much of the the food I intend to eat this summer as possible. It’s a new learning journey in self sufficiency. This is a corner shot of one of three raised beds where I have things growing, either started from seed or planted as seedlings. I thinned an area of radishes and turnips and planted two different types of squash this morning, so things are coming along.
This garden has begun to mirror aspects of`my creative work life. I got a little feedback from a social media prospect and a very nice assignment on a topic I feel strongly about. These possibilities come directly from planting seeds in my creative work life that like the green pea shoots in my garden have begun to stretch upward from the earth.
In the meantime would you answer a question for me? I want to know if you feel connected to the baby boomer generation. I mean do you consider yourself a baby boomer and if so, what is that affinity based on: shared values, cultural markers, marketing or politics of the times. I would love your feedback in the comments below.
Meanwhile, it’s raining so hard here on the shore. I think I will go to bed. I am yearning for a good night’s rest. This was a traveling day and I physically went nowhere.

I enjoyed your post on planting new seeds. Self-sufficiency at its finest. To answer your question about relating as a boomer – I don’t like being labeled any one thing. We are a diverse group and particularly those of us who are mid-60’s saw a very different youth than those who came many years later. We felt like we could move heaven and earth – and in some ways we did, but then, many of us gave in to 80’s consumerism, big biz, money and lost the way. What I find interesting is that some of us are now going back to those days, whether by choice or by circumstance and perhaps that’s not a bad thing. My husband and I are exploring ways to sell our “stuff” and explore the world in our retirement. We’ll be doing it on the cheap too so my creative juices are once again getting a workout. The good news is now we have the internet. Thanks for the thought provoking question and a great blog.

Hey Nancy
What a thoughtful response. Want you to know I appreciate you taking the time to share your opinion. I am noticing in asking this question that I am getting quite a bit of push back on the “boomer” nomenclature. I think creativity was a cultural value that was much appreciated by our generation. It never left us. So I am not surprised that sizable numbers of boomers like you and your husband are creating new definitions of what used to be known as retirement. BTW I love the premise of http://www.justabackpackandarollie.wordpress.com
