This was written as a part of the Hipmunk Summary of a City Project for which I was paid; however, the research and opinions are my own.
It may only be a perceived fact that Californians eat healthier than others, but walking around Venice, it sure seems this is true. Here are a few Venice establishments where you can expect to eat healthily that you should tuck away with your best travel tips.

Cafe Gratitude Venice
Do not miss an opportunity to eat at Cafe Gratitude Venice — known throughout the US as a place always filled with wise and wonderful trailblazers in the living foods arena. Expect some of the most inventive, clean food served by entrepreneurs who feel that in serving food they are serving the planet. Think recipes that begin with inspiration like “I am Grateful.” Meat is not served here, but you will not miss it.
Venice Ale House
The Venice Ale House offers grass-fed and grass-finished beef and organically grown food from the neighborhood. In addition, the restaurant serves local craft beers that pair well with its organic dishes. Started by a fisherman and a local craft beer brewer, the Venice Ale House lets you eat well, watch the sun set, and have the best opportunity to mingle with Venice’s finest locals.
Abbot’s Pizza Co.
You haven’t had pizza until you’ve had it at Abbot’s Pizza Co. This is truly pizza to die for. Some might refer to the place as a hole in the wall; however, this is one hole you’ll want to visit. Enjoy pizza by the slice or by the pie: goat cheese, cheese-less vegetarian, chicken curry, five onion, or wild mushroom are just a beginning. Salads, calzones, and dessert round out the menu.
Gjelina
Gjelina is actually in Abbott Kinney but technically considered Venice. It is open every day from 8 a.m. – midnight, so this is definitely one to remember as you can get breakfast, lunch, and dinner here. Salads, pizza, oysters, charred okra, and crispy purple potatoes are a good indication that you can satisfy your taste buds, as well.
Kreation Organic Kafe and Juicery
Kreation Organic Kafe and Juicery is open every day except Sundays, and in Abbott Kinney it is the destination for cold-press juices, premium detox beverages, and fancy drinks whose claim to fame is that they are better than water, such as alkaline water and chlorophyll. So maybe this is a bit over the top, but there is an audience for these options as chasers for organic chicken breast kabobs.
Seed Kitchen
Seed Kitchen is a macrobiotic and vegan establishment started in 2008 by Chef Eric and his wife Sanae Suzuki. You can get blackened tempeh burgers, seitan sirloin burgers, and Mediterranean bean burgers, as well as tacos, one dish grain bowls, salads, soups, and dessert, not to mention hearty breakfasts. It’s a funky place to heal yourself with food.
Another Kind of Sunrise
Another Kind of Sunrise is your best travel tip for a breakfast spot in Abbott Kinney. If your tea matters or you believe all coffee is not equal, Another Kind of Sunrise is your place. Gluten-free breakfast options abound, and you can have your choice of smoothie prepared with goat milk, whey, or plant protein.
Just imagine your body after a week of eating in establishments like these.
