This is the block where I am living in the Oud Zuid (Old South). It’s an area favored by expats, a bit expensive and right around the corner from the most beautiful park, Vondelpark. My time here is coming to a close. I am headed to the Dappermarkt this morning, not quite sure of what to expect. It is supposed to be the most ethnic market of the many markets Amsterdam offers. I will surely share tomorrow.
Yesterday I went to the Nieuwmarkt and discovered Amsterdam’s Asian area. I had asked Nadia in Scent and Sense where I got a pedicure where Amsterdam’s Chinatown was. It just so happened that she lives in the area and it was an easy walk from the Central Station where I was going to buy my weekend ticket to Brussels. Near the Central Station also means near the red light district. I am warned I “could” be approached by a harmless druggie. But that I should have no fear. Truth is I was approached by no one.
The area is more of a mixture of Pan Asian influences. There were Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese and even Brasilian restaurants. There was a Chinese temple. And I do have photos but I do not have the cord to transfer photos to the computer. So I will not be able to share photos until I return. My big find was an authentic Thai restaurant where the cook’s name is Joy. She prepared the best pad thai I have ever eaten.
I am taking my iphone today so I will have a few photos for tomorrow’s post. I will be writing a post for yahoo.com on 4 markets later today. I just wanted to reach out to ask if Twenty Twelve is taking off in the right direction for you?

Hello Patricia. It was a real pleasure talking to you. Hope you did enjoy the Dapper market in spite of the weather. How was the bus ride to central station?

HRU? I did take the bus rather than the tram and passed the Tropenmuseum and an old old windmill. It was as fast as the Tram and I loved the Dappermarkt. I had the very very best falafel I have ever had from the last vendor on the left. Will definitely be in touch. And thanks for helping a stranger in a foreign country. That is why I love travelling!!
