It is said that laughter takes us out of time and in those moments we are spontaneously liberated from taking ourselves too seriously and to being truly alive. This is my boomer mantra.
My morning conversation with a very young, elderly friend in Australia reminded me of this. He’s 84. Each time I speak to him I “hear” something unsaid, mostly because I am listening. When I asked “how was he doing,” he responded, “Very well. The doctor always has something to say, but as for me, I feel fine. Then he chuckled.”
My first inclination was to take this comment seriously and ask what the doctor had said as if I could do something to correct it. I am guilty of taking myself too seriously in life. My question was somewhat about my discomfort with aging. His response was about his being in touch with his Reality.
May I share my affirmation resulting from that exchange. It is taken from a chapter entitled Don’t Get Serious, Get Real in Rev. Michael Bernard Beckwith’s book, ‘Spiritual Liberation:’
On the ground where I now stand, I declare my aliveness, my sensitivity to the Good that surrounds and infiltrates me.
I live authentically, every attuned to intuitive guidance from within that expresses through me as originality, creativity, harmony, and wholeness.
This is where I “be” today. What about you?
