More is known about cities on the United State’s east and west coasts than about cities in the US Heartland. However, a visit to key cities in Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Nebraska are certain to prove the country’s Heartland has made an economic comeback. In each thriving downtown center visitors enjoy many hotels choices with excellent amenities and affordable prices.
Michigan’s Finest
You may be surprised to learn Detroit has three professional sports teams, casino life, a cultural district, and enough entertainment venues to keep you up all night. Detroit might be the best example of a comeback city with theater fare and regular exhibits at institutions like The Detroit Institute of Arts such that you will forget the city was once bankrupt. Hotels in Detroit now run the gamut and are easy to book, except, perhaps, during the Memorial Day holiday when an annual music festival brings 100,000 or more people to downtown Detroit. Two and three-star hotels abound as do a good choice of three and four-star hotels. For just a little more than $100 per night, book a room at the St. Regis or book at The Corktown Hotel for just over $50 per night. Both offer amenities to meet every taste level.
In Grand Rapids, Michigan you will not need to sacrifice comfort for price. The JW Marriott Hotel Grand Rapids is right downtown and is a four-star property with amenities so good you will not have any need to leave the hotel room. The Courtyard by Marriott Grand Rapids is roughly half the JW Marriott’s price and has a free shuttle to the airport. At any hotel in Grand Rapids, Mi, visitors can expect Midwestern flavor and hospitality.
Minnesota
Indeed, there are many cheap hotels in Duluth, MN, but you are not limited to these. There are many historic bed and breakfasts along Lake Superior’s sandy beach, as well as motels and resorts. South of the University of Minnesota toward Canal Park you will find several of Duluth’s best hotels, most under $100 per night.
Missouri
Mark Twain made St. Louis, Missouri and the Mississippi River famous in his classic works. Today in the heart of downtown St. Louis, with the Mississippi River flowing nearby, you’ll discover charming, affordable hotels in the Downtown West area, many with waterfront views. Hotels in the Columbus Square section also offer excellent value even though many of these do not have waterfront views. Traveling pet lovers will be happy to learn many downtown Hotels in Saint Louis, MO allow pets as guests.
Nebraska
If you are a zoo lover, your plane will not land fast enough for you to head out to the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. This is a 130-acre zoo with animals you’ve never heard of before and an indoor rain forest. The big surprise is Henry Doorly Zoo is one of the best zoos in the world and it is right here in the Heartland. Hotels in Omaha, Ne range from the Super 8 to the Embassy Suites Omaha. The Magnolia Suites Omaha and the Embassy Suites Omaha are close to the Zoo and Aquarium with rates as low as $149 per night.
