Goals Were Not Built In a Day
Goals were not built in a day, but sometimes we forget that. Have you ever driven yourself hard to achieve a goal such that you lose the joy of its achievement completely? This did not happen to me.
You may not know, since I was not communicating on the blog, that earlier this year I trained to ride in the NY 5 Borough Bike Ride through Manhattan for a total of 40 miles. Most of the training was done while I was traveling and this was part of my challenge: to train wherever I was with no excuses.
So when I found myself this past March in Austin, Tx attending an SXSW session hosted by Adidas centered on building communities around fitness, food, and exercise, I became even more encouraged to go for my goal.
When the session was over, we were encouraged to write ourselves a note. Today I received an envelope that looked sort of like my own handwriting. But upon opening it, I was surprised to read the following note I’d written to myself.
The ride is over. I completed the ride without any problem in my mind or with my body. This note made me smile. I saw the end before the actual ride.I could see myself crossing the finish line. So I just went and did that thing in real life, giving me a great sense of achievement.
Whenever you set your mind to meet your own goals, no one can take that away.
